Dick Dale created a new style of guitar playing in the 50’s which gave rise to a whole new category of music in the 60’s called “surf music.” He was given the title “King of the Surf Guitar” by his fellow surfers with whom he surfed with from sun-up to sun-down. In 1963, Dick Dale became the first rock guitarist invited to perform on the Ed Sullivan show. Dick experimented with reverb and was always pushing the frontiers of the music and the electronics. He worked with Leo Fender, who gave him a Stratocaster and amp, to develop what would become the first ever 100 watt amplifier. Playing for bigger audiences, Dick wanted to play at louder volumes, and ultimately he inspired Fender to create one of their most popular products of all time, the Dual-Showman Piggy Back Amp.

Dale, who has always maintained a rigorous high energy schedule, has never used drugs or alcohol and preaches a healthy life style. He is an accomplished Horseman, Exotic Animal Trainer, Surfer, Martial Arts Expert, Archer, and Pilot. Aside from being an accomplished player of Acoustic, Electronic, Bass and Spanish Guitars, Dick also plays Ukulele, Banjo, Drums, Piano, Organ, Electronic Keyboard, Harpsichord, Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone, Harmonica, Xylophone and, believe it or not... the Accordion!
Dick Dale became an Audix endorser in 2009.
