Friday's Child has always charted its own course on both the artistic and business sides of the music industry. From the band's earliest days, Friday's Child broke free from the traditional limitations of what a ‘band' could and could not do. The band was an early pioneer in the Indie music movement, being one of the first acts to negotiate direct distribution of its recordings to cafe music stores. The band partnered with those stores and marketed those releases with a sponsor-supported national tour of the stores, clubs and colleges. This constant effort led them to be on of the most recognized Indies in the country by the early 2000's, selling out medium to large venues all over the country.
The band's efforts led it to be featured prominently in "The Real Deal: How to Get Signed to a Record Label," a best-selling book by Daylle Deanna Schwartz. The chapters on Friday's Child focused on successful do-it-yourself marketing of Indie music. In late 2003, front man, Tommy Walker, came down with a form of MS driven by CNS Lyme disease, and the band disbanded for several years.
In July of 2005, Tommy co-founded Digital Café Tour, along with bassist, Rich Haddad, who replaced Rick Ippolito as Tommy's musical partner. DCT filmed over 100 music artists and comedians in various NJ and NYC venues and distributed those concerts across the Internet. That effort won Tommy's production team several TELLY Awards for Best in Space for Internet Concert production and vaulted his own writing into the emerging digital marketplace.
In 2012, Tommy reunited with original Friday's Child drummer, Dave Drzewiecki, together with Rich Haddad and the current incarnation of Friday's Child emerged. Tommy has written a staggering number of new songs borne out of his experiences. As a result, the band has been doggedly recording all of this work in its home studios and is preparing to market its most anticipated album to date. Tommy has moved from Executive Producer of Digital Cafe Tour to producing Liner Notes, a concert and documentary television series slated for network television broadcast in the greater New York Tri-State area.
The band has played some select shows in recent years. They performed a broadcast show at Bethlehem, PA's prestigious MusikFest and found themselves on the artist roster with such acts as Alice in Chains, Duran Duran, ZZ Top, 3 Doors Down and a host of other notable bands and artists.
