Born in Los Angeles, CA and raised in St. Louis, MO, Kimberly Thompson is a three-time GRAMMY® Award winning drummer. She has performed with music icons such as Beyoncé Knowles and fusion guitarist Mike Stern. A television composer and actress, Kimberly was the original house drummer for the first season of the television show Late Night with Seth Meyers. She is also the writer of opening and closing theme songs for TV network NBC and a winner of the 2016 SESAC Writers and Publishers Award for her compositional writing and performance for network television. Kimberly is currently completing a musical produced by the Dodgers and Tommy Mottolla on Broadway called The Donna Summers Project and will be featured in another Broadway success, Romy and Michelle, October 2016 in New York City.
Kimberly is the president of female-founded record label ©KTMUSICPRODUCTIONS, a Harlem, NY based production company which released her jazz album, "Treasures Abound (A Tribute to the Jazz Greats)," in April 2016. The record features her dynamic drumming and arranging on some of Walt Disney's timeless musical selections recorded by jazz giants like Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and Thelonious Monk, showcasing modern-themed classical etudes and jazz original songs written and performed with her jazz quartet.
Kimberly is a noted alumnus from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music, earning her Bachelor of Music Arts in Jazz Composition and Education. She has two pilots on a history channel-one entitled Story Time with Kimberly Thompson, covering Hollywood's Golden Age superstars Sammy Davis Jr. and Lena Horne, and a children's web series called Music Time with Kimberly Thompson educating kids about music and instrumentation through animation. She will be traveling to Budapest in Fall 2016 with singer/songwriter/activist Rupa Marya, who recently won a $14.1 million public domain right for the song "Happy Birthday."
